REMOTE RESEARCH
How do we quickly adjust to remote testing in a global health crisis?
Historically our team would travel to the client and stay a few days to conduct interviews, observations, workshops, and usability testing. After the start of the pandemic we were able to shift to remote tools and strategies to make sure we were able to keep learning in a remote landscape.
REMOTE COLLABORATION
In a time where we have to be physically distant how do we substitute for in person collaboration?
Finding a substitution for in person collaboration was challenging. Luckily there were several tools that mimic the sticky note experience to conduct and affinity mapping exercise. Below is an outcome of a workshop I helped lead to understand which features were most important to our users. We used this information to have a discussion with our stakeholders and inform the priority our product roadmap.
DESIGN SYSTEM MANAGEMENT
How might we maintain consistency across scrum teams within the SAFe Agile Framework?
In order to increase speed to delivery there are 12+ teams involved in tackling this expansive enterprise software. When involving this many work streams in tandem there is a major risk for designs to become out of sync in development. We can mitigate that risk by creating a source of truth for all teams to reference.
Creating a design system allows designers to work together on separate work streams to maintain consistency and align on design patterns. It also allows us to create reusable components for developers to expedite the coding process.
RAPID PROTOTYPING
Another benefit of implementing a design system is the ability to rapidly prototype high fidelity designs.
Establishing design patterns in shared document allows us to construct repeatable components that can be disseminated through the team. This optimizes the prototyping process because you can now work with high fidelity modular elements to create a design.
